Ingredients

For the Base:

  • 8 oz (1 cup) filtered water, warm (100–115°F)
  • 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about ½ large lemon)
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

For the Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  • Warm the water until it's steaming but not boiling, around 100–115°F.
  • Juice the lemon into a small bowl, removing any seeds, to yield about 2 tablespoons of juice.
  • Pour the warm water into a glass or mug, then stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  • Add the cayenne pepper directly to the warm lemon water.
  • Stir vigorously for 15–20 seconds until the cayenne is fully suspended with no dry clumps on the surface.
  • Taste, then stir in honey or a pinch of sea salt if using. Drink immediately while the cayenne is still evenly distributed.

Notes

  • Cayenne settles quickly once the drink stops moving — give it a second stir halfway through if you're sipping slowly.
  • Fresh lemon juice can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days without the cayenne; add the cayenne fresh each time you make a glass.
  • Extra lemon juice freezes well in an ice cube tray for up to 3 months — thaw a cube or two whenever you want a quick glass.
